Young relocated to Los Angeles landing the roles in the film Cathy Metsker in Randall Wallace in the film We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson Madeleine Stowe & Greg Kinnear and Rachel in JJ Abrams Mission Impossible: 3 which also features Tom Cruise and Keri Russell. She has also produced several independent films including The Freebie with Dax Shepard with Joshua Leonard and A Country Remedy which features Joshua Leonard. Both were produced in North Carolina. Young has had a success on television since moving to LA. Some of her work includes Grey s Anatomy Private Practice and 2 1/2 Men The West Wing, ER Frasier Boston Legal Cold Case NCIS and Law & Order. Young can be currently seen in her award winning role as The First Lady Mellie Grant in ABC the hit show Scandal and in the upcoming Zoe Cassavetes film Day out of Days. Young is also making an album of contemporary adult music, which includes songs by Fleetwood Mac, Tom Waits and Ryan Adams. The 15th of May, 2015 Young released her first album Far Away So Close on iTunes. She was in Megan Griffiths' crime drama The Night Stalker, about serial murderer Richard Ramirez. In 2016 she appeared alongside Jim Rash and David Koechner as a supporting character in the independent film Bernard and Huey. A live action Disney adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, with Oprah Winfrey Reese Witherspoon Mindy Kaing and Reese Witherspoon, in 2018, was her first significant performance.
